The STANIC qualification was formed by the Salmon & Trout Association as the entry level qualification for those wishing to become professional instructors. The assessment course, usually conducted over a weekend, comprised a practical assessment of the candidate's ability to demonstrate and explain specified casts and to recognise and rectify specific faults. These assessments were conducted by APGAI assessors. In addition there were written tests and the candidates were required to prepare and conduct a 20 minute presentation, in front of an audience, on a subject provided on the first day of the course. As well as the casting and fishing disciplines, candidates could also undertake the discipline of flydressing.
Since the introduction of Level 2 CCA, STANIC is no longer available. It is, however, a fully recognised qualification allowing the holder to become a member of GAIA and to undertake the APGAI examinations in the discipline they hold.
