Introduction
1st4sport Qualifications, in partnership with the Joint Angling Development Board (JADB), has developed qualifications in the Coaching of Angling. For many years becoming a formally recognised instructor in game angling required that a person held either the STANIC (Salmon & Trout Association National Instructors Certificate), SGAIC (Scottish Game Angling Instructors Certificate) or the advanced qualification APGAI.
In recent years it became government policy to introduce a coaching qualification system for all sports. It was for this reason that The Association of Professional Game Angling Instructors (APGAI) changed their name to The Game Angling Instructors Association
(GAIA), with APGAI becoming The Advanced Professional Game Angling Instructors Certificate. D
oing so allowed holders of the STANIC and SGAIC qualifications to join the association which previously had only been open to those who held the APGAI qualification. By bringing existing instructors under one body and being actively involved in producing the standards required for the practical (casting and fishing) assessments of the new Level 2 qualification, GAIA has been able to maintain the practical standards previously set by STANIC and SGAIC.
Now for those who wish to become recognised coach/instructors in game angling the Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Angling (Game) is the way forward, this website exists to provide any information required, contact information and online application. GAIA accepts holders of the Level 2 qualification for membership of the Association
